Beijing’s shipbuilding industry has achieved a new milestone by building a new LNG dual-fuel car carrier, with a capacity for 10,800 cars, the largest in the world currently.

Constructed by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI) for South Korea’s HMM, the ship has reportedly left the dock.

It is the largest car carrier built in the country, which meets the International Maritime Organisation’s Tier III emission standards.

The earlier record was held by Anji Logistics’ “Anji Soundness” and “Anji Ansheng,” both with a capacity to accommodate 9,500 vehicles.

The latest carrier is 230 m long, 40 m wide and has a 10.5 m draft. It has 14 decks, enabling it to load electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.
