POSITION SUMMARY

The Engine Storekeeper is responsible for the receipt, storage, inventory control, and issuance of engineering spare parts, consumables, tools, lubricants, and technical materials onboard. The role supports the Chief Engineer and Engine Department by ensuring the timely availability of materials required for maintenance, repairs, and safe vessel operations.

The Engine Storekeeper maintains accurate inventory records, ensures proper storage conditions, and contributes to cost control and operational efficiency onboard.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Receiving & Inspection

Receive all engineering stores, spare parts, lubricants, chemicals, and technical consumables delivered onboard.

Verify delivered items against purchase orders, delivery notes, and packing lists.

Inspect materials for quantity, quality, and condition upon receipt.

Report shortages, damages, incorrect deliveries, or quality issues to the Chief Engineer immediately.

Ensure all received items are properly identified and documented before storage.

Storage & Preservation

Maintain clean, organized, and secure engine stores.

Store spare parts and consumables according to manufacturer recommendations and company procedures.

Ensure appropriate storage conditions for lubricants, paints, chemicals, batteries, and sensitive electrical components.

Implement proper stock rotation practices where applicable.

Ensure hazardous materials are stored in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.

Inventory Management

Maintain accurate inventory records using the vessel's Planned Maintenance System (PMS) or inventory management software.

Update stock movements immediately following receipt or issuance.

Conduct routine inventory checks and periodic physical stock counts.

Monitor minimum and critical stock levels and notify the Chief Engineer of replenishment requirements.

Assist in preparing inventory reports, stock valuations, and monthly consumption reports.

Issuing of Stores

Issue spare parts, tools, lubricants, and consumables only against authorized requisitions or instructions.

Record all issues accurately to maintain complete inventory traceability.

Ensure critical spare parts remain available for emergency situations.

Coordinate with engineering officers to prioritize material requirements for planned maintenance and repairs.

Purchasing Support

Assist the Chief Engineer in identifying spare parts and preparing requisitions.

Obtain technical information such as part numbers, specifications, and manufacturer details when required.

Follow up on outstanding orders and expected deliveries.

Support preparation of dry-docking and major repair spare parts lists.

Housekeeping & Safety

Maintain engine stores in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.

Ensure proper lifting techniques and safe handling of heavy materials.

Comply with company safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and PPE regulations.

Participate in emergency drills and perform emergency duties as assigned.

Ensure compliance with ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, Flag State, and company procedures applicable to engine stores.

Documentation & Administration

Maintain complete documentation for all inventory transactions.

File delivery notes, invoices, certificates, and technical documentation related to spare parts and consumables.

Support internal audits, Class surveys, Flag State inspections, and inventory verifications.

Maintain confidentiality of purchasing and inventory information.

Additional Duties

Assist during bunkering, loading of technical stores, and major maintenance projects when required.

Support engineering officers during dry-docking and repair periods.

Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the Chief Engineer or Master.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Previous experience as an Engine Storekeeper, Technical Storekeeper, or similar position onboard a passenger vessel, cargo ship, or in an industrial warehouse environment.

Good knowledge of marine spare parts, engineering consumables, tools, and inventory management practices.

Experience using computerized inventory or Planned Maintenance Systems (AMOS, TM Master, NS5, or equivalent) is an advantage.

Good understanding of marine engineering terminology and equipment.

Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and inventory management software.

Strong organizational, numerical, and record-keeping skills.

Physically fit and capable of handling heavy materials safely.

STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
