Reports to: Chief Housekeeper / Housekeeping Manager.


The Assistant Chief Housekeeper assists the Chief Housekeeper / Housekeeping Manager in organizing, coordinating, and supervising all housekeeping operations onboard a cruise vessel serving approximately 2,000 passengers, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and guest satisfaction in accordance with company policies, ISM, sanitation standards, and maritime regulations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Responsibilities

Assist in the daily organization and coordination of the Housekeeping Department operations onboard.

Allocate cabins, public areas, and workstations to housekeeping personnel according to passenger load and operational requirements.

Supervise and inspect cleanliness standards in passenger cabins, corridors, public areas, officers’ cabins, laundry, and linen stores.

Ensure turn-down service and special cleaning requirements are delivered according to company standards.

Control and supervise laundry operations, linen circulation, issuing, receiving, and inventory control.

Ensure proper handling of guest clothing, personal belongings, lost & found items, and “Do Not Disturb” procedures.

Monitor room status, cabin access control, key handling, and limitation of unauthorized access to guest areas.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure housekeeping operations comply with ISM Code, Sanitation Manual, company policies, and applicable STCW requirements.

Enforce safe working practices and correct use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies.

Report and follow up on maintenance issues, missing/damaged linen, furniture, or equipment.

Report any unusual occurrences, incidents, or guest issues promptly to the Housekeeping Manager or Hotel Manager.

Inventory & Administration

Prepare requisitions for housekeeping supplies and consumables; receive and verify issued items from central stores.

Conduct periodic and monthly inventories of housekeeping equipment, linen, and consumables.

Maintains accurate records, logs, and reports as required by management.


Crew Management & Training

Train, coach, and supervise housekeeping personnel, ensuring consistent service quality.

Monitor crew performance, discipline, and hygiene standards; provide feedback and recommendations.

Support onboarding, on-the-job training, and continuous development of housekeeping staff.

Guest Service

Fulfill guest requests promptly and professionally, maintaining a visible and courteous presence.

Handle guest complaints and special requests efficiently and escalate when required.

Contribute to a positive on-board atmosphere and company goodwill.

Additional Duties

Participate in embarkation and disembarkation operations as required.

Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the Housekeeping Manager or Hotel Management.


CRITICAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience as Assistant Housekeeper or similar supervisory role onboard cruise or passenger vessels.

Strong knowledge of housekeeping operations, laundry systems, and sanitation standards.

STCW Basic Safety Training certification (as applicable).

Good command of the English language.

Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.


RECRUITMENT AGENCY PROFILE

Preferred candidates: cruise/passenger vessel or large hotel experience; strong housekeeping supervisory background; experience leading multicultural teams; good English; STCW Basic Safety Training where applicable; available for onboard contract.
