Distance From Family. Is it Possible to Make up for Lost Events? How to Mitigate the Effect of Absence?

Working away from home inevitably impinges on both the one who works - a seafarer, and his family members. The seafarer missed the whole “series” of family events and it is impossible to make up for them post factum.

She Only Wants My Money

This phrase is often presented as the «last argument» in a fight, in the heat of emotions as an extreme expression of resentment and it can reflect a man’s emotional experiences that his value in relationships is only reduced to material support.

medical examination for sailors

All crew working at sea must undergo a health screening - a medical examination of seafarers.

All crew members of sea and river vessels, including masters, navigating mates, seamen, as well as engineers, motormen, kitchen workers, wipers, etc., must be examined.

Prior to their employment, seafarers have their health checked: a candidate must be fully prepared to perform any duties on board, including in emergencies. It is possible to issue a seafarer's identity card only after a standard package of documents has been collected and a medical examination has been undergone.

The medical examination of seafarers is aimed to:
  • Assess the seafarer’s professional suitability;
  • Identify possible chronic diseases, carry out prevention and prevent disease progression;
  • Diagnose infectious and parasitic diseases;
  • Conduct effective recovery after a voyage or injury.

In addition to fluorography and standard certificates issued by a narcologist and a psychiatrist, crew members get special personal medical books that provide a history of medical examinations and vaccinations. This document remains with a seafarer or is kept by a ship's doctor on board for the entire period of a voyage. Thus, any medical board or port employee can make sure that the requirements of the Maritime Labor Convention are observed.

Seafarers undergo a medical examination twice a year or more often. The frequency of required examinations depends not only on the health of a person, but also on the regulations of the company that employs them. All crew members, regardless of the type of vessel, must be examined.

Due to the fact that Georgia has become a popular destination for seafarers from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, the question is topical: Where can seafarers quickly and efficiently undergo a medical examination?
