Every five years the command staff is required to change certificates and update the package of documents for further work. Ratings need to improve their qualifications to move up the career ladder. But what to do if you now live in Europe and there is no opportunity to undergo training in a Ukrainian training centre?   Based on recommendations from seafarers “Crewing Guide” has compiled a number of training centres in Europe where you can obtain certificates and take the necessary courses for your next voyage.

Speaking about European training centres let's start with those where Ukrainian seafarers are used to study and which have branches in different countries of the world.

 

Maersk Training

A subsidiary of A.P. Moller - Maersk Group has more than 40 years of experience in the fields of wind energy, oil and gas transportation, and maritime shipping. At Maersk you can choose full-time, blended or online training. Modern simulators, training equipment and a wide range of courses allow to train more than a thousand seafarers every month. Courses are conducted mainly in English. Maersk has European offices in the Netherlands, Norway and the UK.
 
BSM operates six maritime training centres worldwide, in Europe they are located in Poland and Cyprus. After the pandemic the training centre launched online courses and courses related to SIRE 2.0. The main focus is courses on tanker simulators, from LNG operations to chemical cargoes. Lloyd's Register approved provider of educational programs in LNG cargo operations. There is a cadet program.
 

In addition to the Ukrainian office of Epsilon Training has one in Romania and employment offices in Greece and Cyprus. The training centres are equipped with modern dual bridge and engine simulators, and use ECDIS training programs from Transas, JRC, FURUNO, DANELEC and INTERMARINE. The Veritas Maritime training centre offers training in the planned maintenance system (PMS) based on Microsoft NAV Dynamics, Benefit, Kapa and Danaos. There is a cadet program.

 
The Lerus Training Centre is represented in Bulgaria and Lithuania. The main focus is on training the offshore specialties. Training is carried out according to the standards of IMO, The Nautical Institute, OPITO and GWO. Courses using modern simulation solutions from KONGSBERG MARINE.
 
Training centre in Europe located in Cyprus. Individual training courses for deck and engine room personnel. Various STCW training courses, radar navigation, radar plotting and ARPA use at operational level, Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS, general ECDIS training. Specialised maritime English courses are also available.

Poland
 
One of the countries to which the largest number of Ukrainians moved in 2022, including families of seafarers. There are maritime universities, colleges and technical schools, but we will focus on training centres where you can get or renew the certificates.
 

Polish training centre specialising in basic safety training and dangerous goods transport. It trains PFSO, CSO and instructors.

 

Several training centres at the Maritime University in Szczecin. They train officers, rescuers, engine room specialists and also offer specialized courses (GMDSS, VHF and related), train radar equipment operators (e.g. ARPA) and teach the transportation of dangerous goods HAZMAT. There are English language courses.

 

Centrum Training Maritime Gdynia in cooperation with SVS RISK offers STCW safety and health courses for seafarers. The training centre has full approval of the Polish Maritime Administration. The Polish Maritime Authority is on the IMO white list and all its courses are fully accepted by all flag states worldwide.
 
The name speaks for itself. The European training centre focuses on STCW maritime safety and health certificates. Both officers and sailors are trained here. Courses are conducted in Polish and English.  
 
After the decks were opened to armed MSO (maritime security operator) ship protection teams in 2010, the training centre became one of the world leaders in training highly qualified MSO maritime security operators. Today it is the only Polish company providing armed ship protection services in the African region.
 
Another training centre in Poland which is focused on improving the skills of offshore industry workers. Offers more than 80 specialized courses on simulators of a sinking helicopter, wind turbine, in a training pool, at height and others. There is online training.
  
A training centre specialises in ship handling training for captains, pilots and tugboat captains. Since 1980 the centre has trained over 4,800 captains and pilots from 40 countries. The centre has its own research centre where various ship handling issues are studied, including human influence, port and waterway design.
